Civil, Water/Wastewater Engineering
At the Begich Boggs Visitor Center, BCE conducted a comprehensive engineering assessment of the existing wastewater system to support future upgrades. The evaluation included inspection of two lift stations, approximately 1,400 linear feet of 8-inch transmission line, a 0.5-acre facultative treatment lagoon, and a soil absorption drain field. BCE performed surface water sampling from a nearby lake to assess potential impacts from the absorption system and additional water quality testing at adjacent gravel ponds to support environmental due diligence. The team completed a full site survey, CCTV inspection of the sewer lines, and a detailed condition assessment of the existing infrastructure. Based on the findings, we developed and analyzed four repair and upgrade alternatives, including lifecycle cost projections and operational considerations. The recommended solution was selected for its cost-effectiveness and reduced complexity in long-term operation and maintenance, providing the client with a reliable and sustainable path forward for system improvements.
