DESCRIPTION

BCE designed a successful seismic upgrade for the 59,643 SF Ketchikan Pioneer Home, a senior living facility operating twenty four hours per day, 7 days per week. The project began with a comprehensive seismic analysis, followed by phased design and implementation of structural code upgrades to bring the building into full compliance with current standards. To minimize disruption to residents, work was carefully planned and executed in phases, prioritizing critical structural improvements while maintaining full facility operations. Key upgrades included reinforcing existing structural elements, such as beams, trusses, and shear walls, and integrating new framing components and drag struts to enhance seismic load transfer. Despite the challenges of working in an occupied environment, BCE’s engineering team delivered the project with precision and care, ensuring safety, code compliance, and uninterrupted service for the residents.
