Mount Hood National Forest, Oregon
Civil Engineering and Design, Cost Estimating
BCE modernized the water system serving the historic Cloud Cap Inn, Cloud Cap Saddle Campground, and Snow Shoe Club Cabin in Oregon’s Mount Hood National Forest. The original system, built around a spring box, underground tank, and galvanized/PVC piping, no longer met regulatory standards. A site investigation was conducted and feasibility study, delivering a report with design alternatives and life cycle cost analysis. The Forest Service selected the most practical solution and tasked BCE with developing a new system that protects against contamination, adapts to potential spring migration, and simplifies distribution for easy access and low maintenance—all while preserving the site's historic character and minimizing visual impact. The final design provides a safe, reliable water supply that meets modern standards and honors the legacy of this treasured location.
