BCE designed a roof replacement along with seismic upgrades for the 55,000 sq. ft. Timberline Lodge, a National Historic Landmark constructed in 1937 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and located at 6,000 feet elevation on the south slope of Mt. Hood, Oregon. Welcoming more than two million visitors each year, this iconic lodge will remain fully operational throughout both design and construction thanks to BCE’s meticulous planning and carefully phased approach. The project scope included design of a new roofing system, fire sprinkler installation, and targeted seismic improvements, all developed in strict compliance with the Timberline Lodge Historic Building Preservation Plan and State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) requirements. BCE also performed evaluations of structural wood checking associated with past fire related damage. Our Team delivered 60% and 90% Design submittals, as well as complete Construction Documents. BCE’s work included comprehensive architectural and engineering services, supported by detailed technical studies, reports, and construction cost estimates. Through careful coordination and preservation, and focused design, BCE enhanced the lodge’s safety, resilience, and longterm performance while safeguarding the historic character of one of Oregon’s most treasured landmarks.
